BR, on the other hand, is much more fast paced and exciting, but doesn't give the viewer enough time to become emotionally attached to the characters as in FMA however, this drawback is minimal as the plot behind BR is much more story-driven. FMA tended to lean towards the "drawn-out" and "slow-paced" genre while in the process giving detailed character development which made you "feel for the characters" that much more, giving some of the moments in the anime a more powerful effect. If you enjoyed one you'd enjoy the other.

All-in-all BR makes up to be a fine series that can cure your boredom. Each talisman is able to manifest itself into an "alchemical weapon," hence the name "Arms Alchemy." Each weapon is different and can only have one wielder at any specific time. The villians in both stories also each have their own unique powers, the Homunculi have their names derived from their specific power (Gluttony has an insatiable appetite, Wrath is a bloodthirsty warmonger, etc.) while the members of the L.X.E (main antagonists of BR) each have their own "Arms Alchemy" (essentially a talisman made from alchemy that has a unique power) as do the protagonists. In both stories the main characters (Elric brothers in FMA and the "Bravo Team" in Busou Renkin) fight against evil organizations who've conjured various methods of wreaking havoc on the world. The predominant similarity between these two animes is blatantly obvious they both revolve around alchemy! That alone should impel you to watch the other if you've watched one however, if it's not then I'll explain why you, the viewer, would adore both. Refreshingly so - I enjoyed seeing it progress. Overall, both anime are very well worth watching, and very enjoyable, but a warning: initially I was put off by the large differences of Alchemic law in the two universes of the Anime.Īlchemy doesn't work quite the same way in the different anime series, but if you watch past the beginning few episodes (and expect it to be different), you get used to it and can clearly see how it works. There is a certain amount of emotional and character development of the characters in Busou Renkin, but FMA beats it (more or less, the characters develop much more towards the end of the series in B.R.) in this respect. In FMA Ed and Al fight to acquire the Philosopher's Stone, while in Busou Renkin Kazuki fights to be rid of it. The Philosopher's Stone is present in both series, but to vastly different ends.

While alchemy is used through Kakugane to create a unique weapon derived from the user in Busou Renkin it's used to modify objects and the world around you as both indirect and direct ways of fighting in FMA.
